The purpose of this document is to define the project for the creation of a new ecommerce-focused website. It is our intention to feature blogs and a forum as well as the standard ecommerce. Email marketing is also seen as very important as we intend for it to play a large role.
Details:
This project has a few main components:
1. A CMS (Content Management System): Joomla 1.5
2. An ecommerce software: X-Cart
3. A newsletter/sequential auto-responder system: The two best options for this are Aweber integration (this would have to be developed), or Acajoom Plus/Pro which is integrated already but may lack a few features of Aweber.
4. A blogging system: Here we would use the article system of Joomla (or Drupal) and allow for user comments.
5. A forum software: Fireboard
6. A wiki or other document storage system: There are several wiki add-ons for both Joomla and Drupal. This will be used to make a Certification database for of exams. Products will be linked to from these pages.
7. A user tracking system: We must be able to track organic users (such as Google searchers) and driven users (banners, emails, ads) from entry, to registration, to order.
These main components will be integrated in the following ways:
1. X-Cart and Joomla 1.5
a. The actual pages of Joomla and X-Cart do NOT need to be integrated fully. Each will be skinned to look as seemly as possible, but will be running separately.
b. X-Cart and Joomla 1.5 are to be integrated/bridged at the user level. Joomla users should be able to login to X-Cart and X-Cart users should be able to login to Joomla.
c. A couple of Joomla modules written for things like showing the X-Cart shopping cart on a Joomla page.
d. “Add to cart” links in Joomla content pages will be used to add products to the cart and get more details. This could be done by hand, but the preferable method would be to build a custom plugin/mambot for Joomla that would allow me to call product information directly. We should be able to insert different pieces of product data based on the mambot call. Examples: Product Name (with trim), Product Description (with trim), and Price.
e. Note that the actual X-Cart catalog system is to be depreciated, and Joomla product pages will be the primary “catalog."
2. Aweber or Acajoom integration
3. SEO a must (CMS & ECOM): All URLs should be search engine friendly.
4. Blog entries will use the Joomla articles pages and have a user comment plugin. They should have social bookmarking buttons (“Submit this article to DIGG, SLASHDOT….")
5. Forum software - Fireboard will be used for a forum.
6. Wiki software will be used to make a certification database.
7. User tracking
