I am seeking a webdesigner/programmer to redesign the web interface of the non-profit academic network that I run. I would like to integrate our website, members details and our password-protected workspace into a single system using Joomla.
WHAT WE NEED
We need three main 'sections', all accessible from the same front end.
1) An open section of website pages with largely 'static' content, or RSS news feeds, but which can be updated directly by people with the appropriate permissions
2) A password-protected area for active collaboration, with a calendar, several wikis for joint content development, a large store for useful documents and resources, discussion/forum on different topics (maybe using phpBB which works very nicely), and chat rooms for live chatting.
3) A members module, where people can update their details, profile, CVs and publications, and upload their articles into our central bank
We need to use a reasonably well-developed software/CMS system so that we can add new features over time, but the key thing is it needs to be 'dummy-proof' and self-explanatory for our members to use!
WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE
WEBSITE: the website was originally designed using googlepages, which we have FAR outgrown. We have a fairly basic design for the site, without any images, but we do need to upload and manage a lot of external documents (mainly pdfs), and the website text content changes frequently. We currently host the site on Hostmonster.com
MEMBERS DATABASE: We also have a large number of member’s pages, which we currently have to update manually! We urgently need some form of member’s module linked to a database for managing our members' information, and allowing them to update their details directly online. Ideally, we would also have a newsletter mailing list system integrated with this (currently this is run from a separate system, so it continually requires time-consuming updates.
INTERACTIVE WORKSPACE: We also run, currently on a separate system, an interactive online workspace which has features like a chat room, forum, wiki etc. This has been working well through last year (with around 150 active members), but the current format was designed for running university course programmes, so doesn’t work ideally for our purposes.
I would like the structure and content management system to be flexible enough that I can also change or re-use the features under a different 'brand' or graphical design. Basically, I want to be able to re-use the same structural features (website, members module, workspace) for other research networks I am involved in. So in fact, I need the same system set up at least twice, with a different logo/graphical design for separate research groups!
I’d be very grateful for your creative ideas and a quote for the different sections of the project.
